What parents are saying

In January of this year, we brought together our first ever Parental Advisory Council, comprised of parents of IGNITE students. Our goal was to gain a new perspective on the strengths and weaknesses of the program, and to build stronger relationships with those who know our students best.

As expected, we learned a great deal about what works well and what can be improved upon at LC, and we look forward to keeping parents involved in an open dialogue about how to best serve our students.

Here's what a few of our parents had to say about the benefits of participating in IGNITE:

IGNITE provides a great way for high school students to be given a hands-on, relevant education in action-oriented citizenship. Actions are the essence of leadership and these kids are given incredible real-life experience to see first-hand how civic engagement and community service make a huge impact on real people -- their communities, neighbors, family and friends. Our son invested in the program and received valuable lessons that we could never have provided him without IGNITE. We have two more children that will certainly get involved as they reach their Junior year.

Initially, I was skeptical of the type of leadership skills my son Aaryn would gain from the program. However, he jumped right in and enjoyed the monthly challenges and the midyear retreat. I believe that Aaryn has gained a better understanding of what his leadership strengths are and how to manifest those in his life. He has made some great friendships along the way and learned valuable life skills. He made mention that he feels he can make a difference not only in the community but his school as well.
